Follow the rules for the role
A warehouse employee, farm worker and regional contractor should not automatically receive identical treatment. The actual employment relationship, duties and applicable exceptions matter. We use approved instructions and refer uncertain classifications for review.
The scope can include payroll journals, net-pay reconciliation, deductions payable and agreed allocations. Payroll processing, slips and remittance release are separate unless specifically included.
Keep changes dated and authorized
Rate changes, hours, reimbursements and leave need an effective date and an authorized source. Reconcile the payroll register with the bank and liability accounts. A single bank debit may include several components that need separate explanation.
Illustrative example: seasonal warehouse support
A Saskatoon input supplier adds temporary warehouse support for a busy delivery period. Approved hours and start dates connect the payroll entries to the period worked. Owner-paid supplies reimbursed to staff remain traceable to receipts rather than being mixed automatically into wages.
Before the first run after a change, we compare approved rates with dated time records and the payroll summary. The cash forecast then includes net wages, deductions and employer amounts at their expected payment dates. Differences between the payroll report and bank payments remain open until their cause is explained and documented.
Questions about this work
Do you decide employee or contractor status?
No. That requires the actual relationship and appropriate advice. We collect supporting facts and record the approved treatment.
Can you help prepare for a wage change?
Yes. We can organize the affected employee list, effective dates and reconciliation checks while the employer confirms applicability and approves changes.
