Keep the operating story with the payment
A supplier payment may cover feed already delivered, a deposit on a later order and a previous balance. We retain the statement, delivery details and payment allocation together. Livestock settlements, veterinary charges and purchased supplies get their own usable references rather than one broad farm expense label.
The cash forecast and the tax return answer different questions. We prepare consistent records for your accountant to apply the appropriate farm reporting method, without assuming that paying an invoice determines every accounting or tax outcome.
An example from a surrounding livestock operation
Suppose an illustrative farm has committed $26,000 to feed deliveries over three months and has paid $9,000 in advance. The commitment schedule shows $17,000 still payable, while the delivery record identifies how much has actually arrived. That distinction helps the owner decide whether another order fits the cash plan.
Review equipment and mixed use carefully
We separate equipment purchases, repairs, loan principal and interest. Farm PST exemptions depend on the goods and their qualifying use; some purchases require farmer certification. An agricultural business name alone does not establish that every purchase is exempt. Personal portions and missing evidence are flagged for review before year end.
Questions about this work
Can you support a farm outside Saskatoon?
Yes. Our remote process can support surrounding farm operations using shared records and scheduled reviews, with a routine suited to the farmβs production and payment cycle.
Will every farm expense receive the same tax code?
No. Equipment, supplies, services and mixed-use purchases require their own review. GST and PST treatment are assessed separately.
