Find the cause of the difference
Duplicate processor imports, owner transfers recorded as sales and unapplied supplier credits can survive a quick bank review. We compare the ledger with statements, invoices and operational records. An unexplained adjustment may hide a problem without correcting it.
We agree the accounts and periods under review. Changes affecting filed returns or accountant-adjusted balances are identified for coordination with the responsible preparer.
Fix the recurring workflow
A mistaken import or unclear approval routine can recreate an error next month. We document what changed and review the process that created it. Missing evidence remains on an exceptions list rather than disappearing into miscellaneous expenses.
Illustrative example: a component return is missed
A Saskatoon repair business receives a $1,260 credit for a returned component but pays the original supplier statement in full. Matching the return, credit and payment identifies the balance recoverable or available against future purchases. The original job cost is corrected once, with the reason retained.
The final handover identifies corrected transactions, remaining questions and changes to the ongoing process. We preserve the supporting history so the accountant can understand adjustments without reopening the original investigation. Where a correction could affect a filed return, it is flagged for the appropriate review rather than silently treated as a current-period item.
Questions about this work
Does cleanup include missing months?
It can be scoped alongside reconstruction work, but correcting existing entries and rebuilding missing activity are distinct tasks.
What if an old item cannot be explained?
We retain it for review with the possible reporting effect and evidence still required. We do not guarantee unsupported balances can be resolved.
